The United States Men’s Under-18 Select Hockey Team squares off with Germany in the preliminary round of the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup at FOSFA Arena Breclav in Breclav, Czechia on Wednesday, August 2 (8/2/2023) at 9:30 a.m. ET.

The USA can’t afford a loss if they hope to advance to the semifinals. They won 6-1 over Sweden on Tuesday, but lost 7-2 to Czechia at the start of the tournament. That left them third in the standings, meaning they need to beat Germany on Wednesday to advance to the next stage of the competition.

The Hlinka Gretzky Cup is a yearly under-18 tournament held each August. The USA has won the tournament just once, in 2003, but has eight second-place finishes dating back to 1993.
